The CCPP was a major sponsor of a meeting for cervical cancer research, screening and treatment professionals from across the Pacific.  The meeting was organized by Prof. Alec Ekeroma and hosted in Suva, Fiji. A major theme of the meeting was learning from and supporting each other.

Representatives from Kiribati, Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) and PNG reviewed the current situation in their respective countries detailing the numbers of women eligible for both vaccination and screening and described previous or current programmes to combat cervical cancer.

The draft WHO cervical cancer elimination strategy and the accelerator goals to achieve this outcome were presented. The 90:70:90 targets were described as well as how they will lead to the global elimination of cervical cancer by 2060.

The group drafted an Urgent Call to Action to support implementation of the WHO accelerator goals and encourage regional governments to implement vaccination, screening and treatment strategies to eliminate cervical cancer from the Pacific as soon as possible.
